Toilet-Paper Wedding Dress

Now that we’ve had the rubber wedding dress, let’s move to the other side of the spectrum: To the wedding gown made out of toilet paper!

Each year, Cheap Chic Weddings carries out a contest of toilet-paper gowns:

For construction only toilet paper, glue and/or sticky tape is allowed (any type, colour and make).

Here’s the winner of last year’s contest:

and 2007’s winner (where the bust area of the other winners are lacking, I thought that this winner found a good solution to the problem):

In 2006, the best looked so:

Unfortunately, the 2009 contest dealine has already passed, so this gives you enough time to prepare for 2010! Check out the website above for all the details.

Trends in Wedding Gowns

According to this article in the New York Times, demure bridal gowns are being replaced by more glamorous, sexy ones. Inspired by what the stars wear (and get away with) at their weddings, brides are turning towards gowns with plunging necklines and backs, sometimes revealing tattoos.

The report is quite in line with an interview I conducted recently with a leading bridal gown store, in which the owner stated that the distinction between evening gowns and wedding gowns is blurring, with the sexiness of evening gowns diffusing into the wedding style. Going to church with the gown is no hindrance, since the shoulders can be covered by a stole and a veil will temporarily cover up a bit more. As soon as the ceremony is over, however, it’s party time and these accessories and removed, revealing the true highlights of the dress.
